In 2013, students at Victor Valley College got Purple Day® put on their campus marquee to be seen by members throughout the community as they drove by campus. Inspired by their actions, EEE started Signs Up for Epilepsy in 2014. Anyone, anywhere, can participate in Signs Up by simply getting businesses, schools, churches, etc., to post signs encouraging people to wear purple on March 26th.
Don’t let anyone ever say you are too young to do anything! In 2008, Cassidy Megan from Canada was embarrassed by her epilepsy and felt she was alone, but she didn’t let it stop her. She wrote her Parliament members asking them to wear purple in support of people with epilepsy. Since then, individuals and organizations around the world have united to promote Purple Day® and raise awareness in their own community. EEE is a partner of Purple Day®. Join us by wearing purple on March 26th.
Everyone has the opportunity to raise awareness in their own backyard! Since 2011, in conjunction with Epilepsy Awareness Month, Epilepsy Education Everywhere has been encouraging advocates from around the country to get proclamations from their city and state governments. Want to get a proclamation in your area? Just use the guidelines and sample below to help you get started, or contact us with any questions.
Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland (EADDL) was started by Dr. Diane Stein and Brad Levy in 2013. Now an annual event, it brings the epilepsy community together on one day in November to celebrate epilepsy and just have a day of Disney fun. In 2014, the 1st Annual Epilepsy Education and Resources Expo was held at the Paradise Pier Hotel. Over 60 nonprofits, doctors, and other vendors were on-site to assist people with epilepsy and their families.
For more information on this year’s event, go to www.epilepsyawarenessday.org or contact us. And, don’t forget, select Epilepsy Education Everywhere as your nonprofit of choice and we’ll get a donation from EADDL.
The Purple Ball, first held in 2010, is our signature fundraiser event. Come join people from around the Inland Empire in support of epilepsy awareness. Don’t dance? Don’t worry! We have a dance lesson along with a night of food, fun, and entertainment. A little something for everyone…and don’t forget to wear your purple!
A big THANK YOU goes out to our leading 2014 Purple Ball sponsors:
